Wealth Management You Can Trust

We believe that the more you plan, the better your life will be.

From short-term goals like saving up for an exotic vacation to long-term goals such as living out your dream retirement, we’ll sit down and discuss everything that’s on your mind to gain a better understanding of you, your needs and what you hope to achieve.

Your financial plan is not a one-time meeting, but rather a living, breathing document that will be continuously updated as you — and your life — evolves. Whether you’re a parent, recent grad or pre-retiree, we can help make sure every financial decision you make has your best interests in mind.

What is Financial Planning?

The Popovich Financial Group at Baird has a unique approach to wealth management focused on helping you make smart financial decisions to achieve your life goals.

Watch, Kathy Carey, CFA®, Baird’s Director of Investment Research and Advanced Planning, defines Wealth Management at Baird, and highlights why we’ve centered our approach around these three important steps:

  1. Advanced Planning: Focuses on what and who is most important to you. This is the step that also addresses major life events that can lead to important financial decisions around estate planning, retirement planning, education funding, tax planning, insurance planning and charitable giving strategies.
  1. Investment Consulting: Focuses on building an investment plan to align your money with your goals.
  1. Client Service: Focuses on building a life-long commitment to you. We are dedicated  to making sure we stay on top of your life changes and how it can impact your financial plan.

Our comprehensive financial planning services include:

Cash flow planning

Cash flow planning

Cash flow planning involves understanding where your money comes from, where it goes and what choices align with your overall financial plan.

College Planning

College Planning

When designing a plan to save for your child's education, it’s important to evaluate how college savings and your financial plan will work together.

Estate planning

Estate planning

Estate planning is more than completing a living will and filing documents with your attorney. It’s ensuring that the legacy you’ve created helps the people and organizations closest to you reach their dreams even after you’re gone.

A thoughtful estate plan lets you pass on your assets the way you want, maximizing the financial benefit to your heirs and providing comfort during a difficult time in their lives. And your Baird Financial Advisor has the expertise to make sure your estate plan is working in sync with your larger wealth management plans by helping you:

Give directly to people and causes that mean the most to you
Designate someone to make decisions on your behalf in the event you can’t do so yourself
Maximize your gifts’ benefit and tax efficiency
Establish trusts without sacrificing flexibility if your circumstances change
Set up charitable and family foundations
Ensure that as your life changes, your estate plan stays up-to-date

Investment planning

Investment planning

Having an investment plan will provide you with a sound strategy to follow and stick to, even when your investments fluctuate during a time of market volatility.

Retirement planning

Retirement planning

Invest early to allow funds to accumulate and grow over the subsequent decades so you acquire substantial resources for your retirement years.

Liability planning

Liability planning

Matching your investment’s denomination with your liability’s denomination will remove unpredictability and liability-asset pairing projections from your portfolio.

Tax planning

Tax planning

Making the most out of your money starts with recognizing all the ways taxes can impact your financial future. Whether you’re focused on your own retirement, a loved one’s education or the best way to pass on your wealth to your heirs, any sound, forward-looking plan to maximize your wealth needs to take into account taxes' bite.

Just as the rise and fall of interest rates can ripple throughout your investment and wealth management plans, so too can changes in tax policy. Your Baird Financial Advisor is trained and experienced in crafting wealth management strategies that plan for its impact, keeping you on track with your broader vision.

RUnthank@rwbaird.com

I have over 10 years of experience specializing in equity and fixed income selection and portfolio management. My primary focus is on retirement strategies related to financial planning, investment management and asset allocation.

Outside of work, I have written various market-specific articles about credit markets and investment strategies. I have a bachelor's degree in finance from Virginia Tech University and currently lives in Ashburn, VA with my wife, Jenni, and our three kids, Gabriella, Gavin, and Giuliana.

My number one mission is to provide an exceptional level of service for my clients and to have a positive impact on their lives. Being able to educate them on ways to enhance their financial wellbeing has always been a passion of mine. Although our clients come from different backgrounds and career paths, they all tend to share a common goal of wealth preservation, as well as trust our team to guide them through market volatility. Nothing makes me feel better than building lasting relationships with our clients and their families.

Brittney M. Schlicker, CFP®

Assistant Vice President

703-668-1304

BSchlicker@rwbaird.com

With an accounting degree from West Virginia University, I am licensed in FINRA Series 7 and 66 and hold both life and health insurance licenses.  In 2018 I received my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certificate to better serve my clients.

Prior to joining Popovich in 2016, I worked within United Bank’s wealth management division in West Virginia and Washington D.C. ,where I delivered a holistic planning approach to high net worth clients. Recently married in September 2022, I enjoy to spend my time hiking and traveling with my spouse.

Why I Serve

My passion for financial planning came at a young age. With a father who owned a sole proprietorship, I witnessed first-hand unexpected life events — the death of a loved one, divorce, health issues and economic conditions — impact my family’s financial wellbeing. I became worried and realized the importance of planning for the unexpected. It was then that I found a passion for giving back and educating others about financial wellness.
